Viola Davis Lands Production Deal With ABC
Emmy-winning actress Viola Davis is set to reinforce ties with ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star of the network’s popular “How To Get Away With Murder” primetime drama just landed a deal with them to develop new projects for cable, broadcast and streaming services under the umbrella of JuVee Productions, a production company which she co-owns with partner Julius Tennon.
Davis and Tennon will also work closely with Andrew Wang, who will serve as head of development. Wang has previously overseen scripted programming for Bravo network.
Wang stated that JuVee’s aim is to bring diversified productions to small and streaming screens.“Viola Davis’ award-winning work in theater, film and television has provided a powerful foundation to advocate for greater opportunities for communities that are traditionally underrepresented in film and television, and to tell the stories that haven’t but need to be told,” he said. “Viola and Julius’ determination to provide these opportunities, and to tell these stories, through new voices and fresh perspectives, in any format, is what excited me about joining the team at JuVee Productions. We’re thrilled to be working with our partners at ABC Studios to bring JuVee’s vision to life … finding new storytellers and bringing their distinct points of view and character journeys to the screen.”
Davis added that JuVee would push to reflect stories and characters from every walk of life and ethnic background. She explained,
“We started JuVee because we wanted to see narratives that reflected our multiethnic and multifaceted culture. We wanted to be a part of classic storytelling, and we didn’t want to wait.”
Congratulations to Viola Davis on her on-going success both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
