Antigua Carnival 2016 Recap [Gallery]
Antigua’s Carnival, staged annually from the end of July to the first Tuesday of August, is a ten-day-long festival comprising the wearing of elaborate costumes, the hosting of beauty pageants, and various pre-street parade Calypso/Soca concerts and competitions.
Carnival in Antigua and Barbuda was introduced in 1957, replacing their former “Old-Time Christmas” festival in a bid to boost tourism on the twin island.
Antigua’s 2016 Carnival celebrations came to a climax on Tuesday, with a burst of color and revelry.
