Obama’s Christmas Gift to the Caribbean
He is expected to sign into law legislation that aims to strengthen United States/Caribbean relations on a variety of crucial issues. It was unanimously passed in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
The United States-Caribbean Strategic Engagement Act (H.R.4939) will make provision for the U.S Secretary of State and the U.S Agency for International Development to come up with a multi-year strategy on energy, security, diplomacy and increased access to educational opportunities.
The move was lead by New York Democratic representative Eliot L. Engle, ranking member of the house committee on foreign affairs, and South Florida Republican Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a former chair of the committee.
