Trinidad and Tobago Child Star Makes Waves in London
Melanie La Barrie (née Hudson), a Trinidad and Tobago-born former artiste, has been selected as one of 14 actors who will form part of the Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre’s repertory company; the first in 25 years.
This is a big step for La Barrie, who will be joined in the company by established actors such as Richard Bremmer (who played the role of Voldemort in the first Harry Potter movie), Patrick Brennan (who played Mr. Dawes in Downton Abbey), and Asha Kingsley, who recently appeared in Coronation Street and The Queen and I.
This company of actors will make up the casts of all the shows at the Liverpool Everyman throughout the entire year. The first show, entitled “Fiddler on the Roof,” will run at the Everyman from February 22 to March 11, with previews available from February 17.
Other upcoming productions in 2017 will include The Conquest of the South Pole, The Sum, and Romeo and Juliet.
La Barrie has been singing since the age of 8, and migrated to England with then husband Nicolai La Barrie in 2000. There, she became a familiar face on London’s theatre scene, and has appeared in several productions, including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Les Miserable, and Matilda the Musical. She has also appeared in popular British soap opera The Eastenders.
