6 Drinks That African Americans Can Use to Fight Diabetes
African Americans are said to have a 77 percent higher risk of being diagnosed with diabetes than White Americans.
However, there are some things that can be done to lower that risk, and that includes your choice of beverage. Here are six beverages that can be added to your diet and exercise routine to help fight diabetes.
1: Chamomile Tea
Chamomile tea helps lower blood sugar and also helps prevent kidney disease. It aids in the prevention of diabetic complications such as nerve and circulatory damage as well.
2: Apple Cider Vinegar
Adding just a tablespoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar to a glass of water and consuming each day can significantly lower blood sugar and help control weight.
3: Almond Milk
You might want to swap your regular milk or soy milk for Almond Milk if you are a diabetic or pre-diabetic, as it helps to lower blood sugar.
4: Black Tea
Black tea contains polysaccharides, which helps to slow the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream. A new German study has found that drinking 3-4 cups of black tea a day could lower diabetes risk by as much as 16 percent.
5: Coconut Water
Swap those sugary energy drinks and sodas for refreshing coconut water, which is naturally sweet but low in sugar.
6: Hot Chocolate
No, we’re not crazy. Hot chocolate is actually a good choice of beverage for diabetics; but it depends on the kind you drink. Hot chocolate made with real cocoa and almond milk will not only satisfy your chocolate cravings, but lower your blood sugar as well, as cocoa improves glucose metabolism, and, as mentioned above, almond milk helps to lower blood sugar.
