Black History in the Making: Tanika Charles
Canadian soul singer Tanika Charles is one of many black artists to watch in Canada. Beginning her career in 2010, Charles, backed by her band The Wonderfuls, has played in such festivals as NXNE, Pop Montreal, CBC Music Fest, TD Toronto Jazz Fest, TD Markham Jazz Fest, the AGO Massive Party, and the Pan Am Games, among others.
She has also appeared on on television in a reoccurring guest role on CBC Kids, as a lounge singer on Global TV’s Bomb Girls drama series, and has had her music featured on HBO’s Less Than Kind, ABC’s Rookie Blue, The CW’s Seed, and CTV’s Saving Hope.
She is set to make her theatrical debut this year in the touring production Freedom Singer.
