Photographer Behind Beyoncé’s First Pregnancy Shoot Hosts Exhibition
Beyoncé’s jaw-dropping pregnancy announcement photo was the work of photographer Awol Erizku. The photo he took of Queen Bey went on to become the most popular Instagram post of all time, with more than 11 million likes.
While still working on receiving his MFA from Yale, he had his first New York exhibition, and now he is set to hold yet another exhibition in Europe; an anti-Trump show satirically named “Make America Great Again.”
His politically-charged London show is a precursor for what can be expected in his upcoming Europe exhibition: gallery walls are painted black and adorned with basketball hoops to represent the black male body. The show also makes reference to Los Angeles gangs or slang, as well as recurring images of a black panther who has arisen from the logo of the Black Panther Party, and who strides across American flags or appears on top of the words “Make America Great Again.”
Erizku stated, “I don’t think this show is anti-American, but it is definitely anti-Trump. All the people he’s hating on do make America great.”
