The Prayer of a Black Mother
Black folk know all about the power of a mother’s prayer; how each time we went forth on a new venture in life; each time we embarked on a new journey, and in many cases, when all we are doing is walking out the door, our mothers have prayed for our safe return.
Theron Jenkins remembers the pennies his mother would offer up in prayer, and thanks her for keeping him alive. At the same time, he offers a prayer of his own, for the brown bodies that have scattered in death all across America, like pennies.
