Some young girls had rough upbringings, and mothers who were either unwilling or unable to pass wisdom on to them as to how to deal with womanhood when it makes its appearance.
One young woman recalls being a tomboy who suddenly bled one day, and how unprepared she was for that bleeding; unprepared by a society that demanded she match the physical strength of a man, and by a mother who could not teach her daughter what she knew nothing about herself.
