Jamaica’s Tourism Sector Sees Earnings Increase

jamaican cultureJamaica’s tourism sector has enjoyed a successful 2016/17 winter season, and is looking toward increased earnings in 2017.

According to the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ), Brian Wynter, the period of December 15, 2016 to April 30, 2017, was the sector’s best ever, grossing over U.S.  $1 billion.

“In a context where tourism usually earns over US$2 billion annually, this year we have already achieved half of that in the winter season alone,” he said, noting that the stakeholders were becoming increasingly optimistic, “and with very good reason.”

2016 was, to date, one of Jamaica’s most outstanding year in tourism, with Jamaica receiving multiple honors, including being named the Caribbean’s leading destination, hotel brand, personality, and world’s leading cruise destination at the World Travel Awards.
