Jamaica Hosts Surfing Event For Autistic Children
Autistic children residing in Jamaica are in for a treat this weekend, with an event entitled “Surfing for Autism”, hosted by the Jamaica Autism Support Association (JASA) and the Jamaica Surfing Association (JSA) at the Jamnesia Surf Club in Eight Miles, Bull Bay.
The local groups are partnering with California-based surf based charity group, THERAsurf for the event on June 24 and 25.
The project aims to address the need for families with autistic children to find suitable activities for them.
Kathy Chang, co-founder of JASA, commented,
“There are so few events that parents with children on the autism spectrum have available to them, so many just stay home. We provide an environment where parents can feel comfortable bringing their children with Autism out and not feel judged or looked at funny because of behavior challenges.”
THERAsurf comprises parents, professionals, and members of the surf community.
