Tiffini Gatlin: From Banking Executive to Million-Dollar Entrepreneur
She made a bold move; quitting her job and entering the beauty industry. Within just one year, she had successfully built her very own million dollar business.
Working Her Way Up
In the early days of her entrepreneurship ventures, Gatlin created a variety of digital brands that proved successful, including Atlanta Tastemaker Magazine.
In 2015, she turned what was just a passive source of income into a patent-pending procedure of pre-curled and looped synthetic hair, born out of the fear of burning her clients while rolling and dipping their synthetic extensions in boiling water.
By 2016, she had built a million-dollar e-commerce brand which she named Curlkalon Hair Collection. She has since expanded her business by introducing Latched and Hooked, a brand that specializes in textured synthetic hair extensions and hair care products.
Sound Advice For Other Entrepreneurs
According to Gatlin, a fool-proof way to gain stable footing in entrepreneurship is to create products that help customers to save time.
“Our wigs cater to the time-conscious woman,” she said. “Women today are super busy, and wigs offer an easy solution to the bad hair day.”
She also shed some light on a major concern for all budding entrepreneurs: that of launching one’s business at an opportune time.
“There is never a perfect time to start [a business],” she said. “If you are waiting for the perfect moment to quit your job, purchase the right packaging, launch the perfect site – you’ll be waiting forever. Just start.”
