That’s exactly what entrepreneur Daveia Odoi aims to do with “The DynaSmiles by DNT,” her very own collection of artwork depicting black girl joy. Odoi’s images appear on several products, some of which are journals, makeup bags, smartphone cases and laptop covers.

Almost one year ago, the collective heartbeats of music lovers everywhere seemed to come to a stop when word got around that Prince Rogers Nelson, an icon among icons, had passed away. With the anniversary of his exit from the natural world fast approaching (April 21), BET has announced that the network will be remembering His Purple Badness in a special way: with an all-day tribute. 

1302570_1280x720In an effort to celebrate the life and career of the iconic Prince Rogers Nelson, music network giant VH1 has announced that, as of 5:30 PM ET on Thursday, April 21, regularly scheduled programming will be replaced by a weekend-long tribute to the legendary singer/actor/musician/dancer. Kicking off the weekend-long tribute to His Purple Badness was the 1984 movie Purple Rain starring Prince and his full band, “The Revolution.”

Her new show, Chasing Destiny, a 10-part BET documentary series which premiered recently, is how she plans to do it.

The former Destiny’s Child band member stressed the importance of diversity in media, particularly where black women are concerned, during a recent interview with AOL Build series.
